Geneto uses polygenic risk scores (PRS), which have been developed in cooperation with the Institute of Genomics of the University of Tartu. Gene tests are also analyzed in the UT Institute of Genomics laboratory. The geneticists of the University of Tartu are top world-class scientists who are the pioneers in genetic science.
Gene test results are presented as risk scores. Your risk can be very low, low, average, high or very high. Based on risk scores, we can tell you which group you belong to.
For example, the impact of genes on bodyweight is between 40 to 70%, the rest is in our own hands. Our genes lay the base, but we can decide ourselves if we’re going to let them affect us or not.

Yes. Geneto’s genetic tests are based on polygenic risk scores (PRS) technology, developed on the genetic data of 500,000 participants of the UK Biobank and verified on 200,000 participants of the Estonian Biobank. All genetic material is expertly handled and analyzed in a certified laboratory of our partners, the Estonian Biobank.
The risks of lifestyle diseases are polygenic risks. In other words, most lifestyle diseases don’t have one specific gene that would confirm your risk of this certain disease. We have to consider many genes and their interconnections to find out what’s really going on. While the gene tests of various other providers analyse single genes and are not very accurate, we have taken the science and technology of gene tests to a whole new level. To find out your genetic predisposition to one lifestyle disease, we analyse approximately 700 000 different genes.
Saliva sampling is used for taking the gene test. After placing an order, a courier will deliver the gene test kit to your home. The test kit includes all of the necessary tools for taking a saliva sample. Sampling takes about 10 minutes.
What is Geneto gene test and what is it used for?
Geneto gene test is a gene test that evaluates one’s personal risk of developing various lifestyle diseases. The purpose of Geneto gene test is to reduce the incidence of lifestyle diseases by giving the user a chance to make informed choices about their lifestyle. Geneto gene test is not suitable for diagnosing diseases.

Geneto gene test analyses altogether thousands of gene markers in your genome that affect your risk and combines them into one risk score for each lifestyle disease. Test results reflect your risk of developing a disease or a condition compared to a person with an average genetic risk. Results are displayed in the Geneto/Elustiil mobile app and/or webpage where you can also get recommendations for adjusting your lifestyle, if needed.

What is the method of Geneto gene test?
The DNA from a saliva sample is genotyped (Illumina Global Screening Array-24 v3.0 chip and Illumina iSCAN sequenator). Software and statistic models developed in cooperation with Geneto OÜ and the Institute of Genomics at the University of Tartu are used for analysing genetic data. The risk scores of Geneto gene test have been validated based on anonymous population data from the Estonian Genome Center of UT.
